A One Club Man Steps Up: Westy Takes the Reins as Shirley's New RDO
Ben “Westy” Hitchcock has been appointed Rugby Development Officer, a role he takes on alongside steering the Division One side as Head Coach.
Sevens season
Sevens training is on
Tuesdays and Saturdays, 6pm, Burwood Park. Men and women welcome, whether you have played sevens before or not. Fast, fun sessions, with specialist sevens coaching clinics through the season.

Shirley Rugby Football Club has played out of Burwood Park since 1917. One hundred and nine seasons in the east of Christchurch, through the good years and the lean ones, and the blue and white still goes out every Saturday.
We run the full range. Year 1 rippa on Saturday mornings, six junior teams, around 55 kids, and junior subs are free. Premier Men and Premier Reserve through the men's grades. The Shirley W's in Classics, who once held a world record and have never once let it go to their heads. Golden Oldies on Sundays for the ones who will not admit it is over.
We are called the Friendly Club and we have never been in a hurry to change it. Hard enough on the field, decent about it afterwards. The people running the teams are parents, old boys and volunteers who got asked once and never stopped.
New players are welcome any week of the season, at any age and any level of experience. Registration goes through Rugby Xplorer. Or come down to Burwood Park on a Saturday and find someone in a Shirley jacket.
