Roger joined Shirley Rugby in 1954 playing under 5st 10lb grade and has been a member continuously since then, apart from 1960 to 1963 when attending SBHS and 1968 to 1970 living in London.
His playing career undistinguished and the highlight was winning U20 competition in 1966. He played in Senior reserve team until becoming a member of the original W's. Roger was the first Old Boy of Shirley Boys High School to be on the committee in 1968, along with his father who had been a member from 1932.
He had a long stint managing Division One teams with various coaches like Brian Richards, Dennis Young, Ray Timmings and Frank Jack.
Roger was on the board for several years and was the chairman of Fund Raising Committee. He was on the inaugural Shirley Sports Club Ltd board that arranged the building of our clubrooms at Burwood Park.
In 2016 upon returning from living overseas, he took over the chairmanship of the Centennial Committee after John Honeybone retired for health reasons.
Roger is a integral part of the essence of the Shirley Rugby Club, is still active on the fundraising committee and he can be seen at almost every senior game during the season.
